THE LAST SUPPER

The Last Supper is a significant event in Christian history that occurred during the last days of Jesus Christ’s life. It is a story that has been passed down through the ages and has been immortalized in art, literature, and film. The story goes like this:
Jesus and his disciples were in Jerusalem to celebrate the Jewish festival of Passover. During the meal, Jesus took bread, blessed it, and broke it, saying, “Take, eat, this is my body.” He then took a cup of wine, blessed it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
Jesus knew that his time on earth was coming to an end and that he would soon be betrayed and crucified. He wanted his disciples to remember him and the sacrifice he was about to make. He instructed them to continue this ritual of breaking bread and sharing wine in remembrance of him.
During the meal, Jesus also revealed that one of his disciples would betray him. The disciples were shocked and began to question who it could be. Jesus identified Judas Iscariot as the one who would betray him.
After the Last Supper, Jesus and his disciples went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. While they were there, Judas arrived with soldiers and arrested Jesus. He was brought before the religious leaders and then the Roman authorities, who sentenced him to death by crucifixion.
The Last Supper is remembered as a significant event in Christian history as it marks the beginning of the Passion of Christ, leading up to his death and resurrection. The ritual of breaking bread and sharing wine, known as Communion or the Eucharist, is still practiced in many Christian churches today to remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for humanity.
