JESUS WALKING ON WATER

The story of Jesus walking on water is a well-known biblical account that appears in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and John. The story takes place after the feeding of the 5,000, and it goes like this:

One evening, after Jesus had spent the day teaching and healing people, he sent his disciples ahead of him to cross the Sea of Galilee by boat while he went up into the mountains to pray. Later that night, the disciples found themselves caught in a storm and struggling to row their boat against the wind and waves.

As they were struggling, they saw what they thought was a ghost walking towards them on the water. But Jesus called out to them, saying, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples, then replied, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.”

“Come,” Jesus said.

And so, Peter stepped out of the boat and began to walk on the water towards Jesus. But as he saw the wind and waves, he became afraid and started to sink. He cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately, Jesus reached out his hand and caught Peter, saying, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Together, they climbed back into the boat, and the wind died down. The disciples worshiped Jesus, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

The story of Jesus walking on water is often interpreted as a symbol of faith and trust in God’s power to overcome life’s challenges. It also demonstrates the compassion and grace of Jesus in rescuing Peter when he was in trouble.
