GIDEON DEFEATS THE MIDIANITES

The story begins with the Israelites suffering under the oppression of the Midianites. The Midianites were a powerful tribe who would raid the Israelites’ crops and livestock, leaving them with nothing to live on. The Israelites cried out to God for help, and He sent an angel to speak to Gideon.
The angel told Gideon that he was to lead the Israelites in battle against the Midianites. Gideon was hesitant, as he did not believe he was worthy or strong enough to lead such a large army. But God assured Gideon that He would be with him and that he would be successful.
Gideon assembled an army of 32,000 men, but God told him that the army was too large. He instructed Gideon to send home any men who were afraid, and 22,000 left. God then instructed Gideon to test the remaining men by having them drink from a stream. Those who drank with their faces in the water were sent home, leaving only 300 men.
With this small army, Gideon led an attack on the Midianites. They surrounded the Midianite camp at night and used torches and trumpets to create the impression of a large army. The Midianites were so frightened that they fled, and the Israelites pursued and defeated them.
Gideon’s victory over the Midianites was a great triumph for the Israelites. They had been freed from the oppression of their enemies, and Gideon had become a great hero. However, the story does not end there. Gideon was offered the position of king, but he refused, saying that only God was their king.
Overall, the story of Gideon defeating the Midianites is a powerful tale of faith, courage, and the belief that even the smallest army can defeat a powerful enemy with God’s help. It continues to inspire people to this day.
