ELIJAH RESURRECTS A WIDOW’S SON
In the Bible, there is a story about the prophet Elijah who resurrected a widow’s son. Here is a summary of the story:
Elijah was a prophet who had been sent by God to bring His message to the people of Israel. One day, Elijah came across a widow who was gathering sticks outside of the town of Zarephath. The widow was extremely poor and had only a handful of flour and a little oil left to make a cake for herself and her son. After they ate the cake, they would have nothing left to eat and would surely die of hunger.
Elijah asked the widow to bring him a little water and a piece of bread. The widow told Elijah that she had only enough flour and oil to make one small cake and that after they ate it, they would surely die. Elijah told the widow to go ahead and make the cake but to bring him a small portion of it first.
The widow obeyed Elijah and made the cake. She gave Elijah the small portion of it that he had asked for. Then something amazing happened. The jar of flour and the jug of oil did not run out as they normally would have. Instead, they continued to provide flour and oil for the widow and her son until the drought was over.
Sometime later, the widow’s son became very ill and died. The widow was devastated and cried out to Elijah, “What have you against me, O man of God? You have come to me to bring my sin to remembrance and to cause the death of my son!”
Elijah took the boy’s body and carried it up to his own room in the house. He laid the boy on his bed and prayed to God, “O Lord my God, let this child’s life come into him again.” The Lord heard Elijah’s prayer, and the boy’s life returned to him. Elijah then brought the boy back to his mother, who was overjoyed to see him alive again.
The story of Elijah resurrecting the widow’s son is a powerful example of God’s love and compassion for His people. It also shows how God can work through His prophets to perform miracles and bring hope and healing to those in need.
